This morning the light came in low and bright through the window above my bed. I saw this and it reminded me of Inception. The sheets are the waves and the smooth sheet, the shore. Since it is my bed, it works with the whole dreaming thing. Pretty clever, I thought. I wish I would have thought that this morning, but it was an after thought after editing it at lunch.

If you haven’t seen Inception yet, stop reading and go see it.

I read a convincing article about how the whole movie is a dream. The audience participates in the dream that is the movie. Basically, movies/cinema being a dream. I don’t know. I like the ambiguity of the ending, allowing people to take from it what they want.

I went to a the Boone County Fair on Monday.

It was creepy and weird.

I kept getting hassled by the carnival game people. “If you play this game I wont tell your girlfriend about the redhead you were here with last night” “Come on boy, dont you want to impress your girl” “Come here, I’ll show you how to win this game!”

This is the weirdest year of my life

What doesn’t kill you makes you weirder. Sure, stronger… but also weirder.

I am trying my hardest to see these challenges presented to me as a blessing and a chance to grow, but to be honest I am just… exhausted.

But it’s funny… how the next day after a night of frustration just has a mysterious beauty to it. I’ll post pictures over lunch today, but I honestly just felt this reminder from above that the earth is not a cold dead place.

In a world conflicted.

Last week I saw how beautiful the world can be and how ugly the world can be.
First, that which is beautiful.

My nephew, Peyton Stephen Sims, was born on Wednesday the 21st. To greet him into the world was his mother and father, all four grandparents, his uncle, and a friend of his mother’s. Waiting “patiently”, his aunt, great grandparents, and all the rest of his family, offered prayers and anticipation. Everything went fine. Peyton was peaceful.

It was so amazing to be around all of it. It was so encouraging to be around my family and to see all the love around. It was truly a blessing. Peyton is so lucky to have the parents he does. I cant wait to see how he grows up.

Now the ugly. On Friday I got to see how terrible the world can be. I cant go into details, but I had jury duty. I got to hear about how evil people can be. How deceitful. How escapist. How dark. As someone who wants to believe in the best in people, it tears me apart. It just makes me constantly wonder what it is that makes people bad? What makes people want to hurt other people? I know it is a broken world we live in, but how can the realities of Wednesday and Friday both exist?

Days like Friday push us to lose hope, but days like Wednesday reinforce hope. I do believe that Wednesday greatly outweighed Friday in my heart. I mean, seriously, look at that kid!

I guess sometimes it is a matter of deciding, will we hold on [to] hope or let the pain and suffering consume us?

In the waiting room

I am in the waiting room at the hospital where my sister is about to have her first baby. Her,
Kylee, and Jeff, my brother-in-law, decided to not know the sex. My mom and dad, his mom and dad, and I, are all waiting as patiently as possible. I am really excited to be an uncle.

In the waiting room I read both issues of Hit Monkey that have been released.

We’ve been here since 10am.

I will write more on this in reflection tonight.

I figured out that I needed a tiny break to refresh myself. It has been a really rough past couple weeks. I feel like I say that a lot. Anyway.

I really appreciate the analogy here, that bugs are drawn to something that ultimately kills them. Sad.

Day 101:

I had my 50mm lens on my camera, and took another lens, turned it around, and put them front to front, in front of brian’s eye. weird.
