The Plasticity of Self (Day 34)
21/11/2009I’ve been trying to do things differently. To show things in a way that I haven’t seen them before. I stuck my super-wide angle lens in a bowl and really liked the variations of light it created. I figured I could try to make it into some sort of self portrait. I like that during this experiment, I wasn’t able to get 2 of the same picture. Even clicking the shutter twice within the same second would yield variance with reflection.
This set got me to thinking about a conversation I had with a friend of mine about the plasticity of life. Apparently, there was an experiment where people’s excitement was rated at three different points, before, during, and after a specific event. If “before” they said they were very excited, but “during” said things were just ok, when they were asked again significantly “later”, they remembered being really excited during. People shaped their recollection of an event by their previous emotions about it.
Also, I’ve just been thinking about self control a lot. Not self control like “stop eating those damn cheetos” but rather going into a situation with a positive attitude even if I’m not excited about it. To always want to be a light and pursue that requires more self control than I have right now.
Anyways, enjoy my variants of self.
